Information concerning admission to the trainee programme is published in the daily press and on our website, krus.no, in June.
You will find an application form here. The form may also be obtained from the Staff Academy or a prison after the admissions information has been published.
On the basis of their application, candidates are called in to take an admissions test. This test consists of physical tests, written exercises and a personal interview with the Admissions Board. The Board then reaches its conclusion based on an overall assessment of the candidate’s application, the documents submitted and the admissions test. The entire trainee period is considered a probationary period, and the suitability of each trainee will be continually assessed.
Physical test:
In order to be admitted to the Prison College as a trainee, you must meet the following requirements. The same requirements apply for approval as a deputy prison officer:
Exercise 1 - Push ups
Alt. 1: Place your hands and knees on the floor, with arms shoulder-width apart and your body extended and straight. Lower your body to the floor and then raise it until your arms are straight.
Requirement: 20 repetitions = 1 point, 25 repetitions = 2 points.
Alt. 2: Place your hands and toes on the floor, keeping your body extended and straight. Lower your body to the floor and raise it again until your arms are straight. Requirement: 15 repetitions = 3 points.
Exercise 2 - Sit ups
Lie on your back with your knees bent and your feet on the floor, your hands behind your neck and elbows extended sideways. Roll up from the floor until your elbows touch your knees and slowly return back to your original position.
Requirement: 20 repetitions = 1 point, 25 repetitions = 2 points, 30 repetitions = 3 points
Exercise 3 - Back extension
Lie face down on a box, keeping your lower body straight. Wedge your feet under a fixed object or have someone hold them down. Lower your upper body from your hips to a 90-degree angle and place your hands behind your neck. Slowly raise your torso until your body forms a straight line and then lower it again slowly.
Requirement: 15 repetitions = 1 point, 20 repetitions = 2 points, 25 repetitions = 3 points.
Exercise 4 - Endurance (oval track)
Run around a track, the straight sides of which are 15 metres long and the ends 7 meters long. (23 rounds are equivalent to 1012 metres.) On one of the straight sides you must lie down flat on your stomach and on the other straight you must lie down flat on your back.
Requirement: Complete the test within 10 minutes. 23 rounds = 1 point, 26 rounds = 2 points, 30 rounds = 3 points.
Each exercise must be completed with a minimum of 1 point, and a minimum total of 5 points is required in order to pass the physical test. A maximum of 12 points can be achieved.
