• have general admission, or
• you do not have general admission, you must have the subjects Norwegian, English and social studies in the curriculum level (numeric character) and experience in relevant work with humans
• have the necessary maturity and personal fitness is required as a prison
• has served military service or can document an exemption (the requirement applies to men)
• have at least one year's practice of working life
• have completed a minimum of 21 years in the course of the year when you submit an application to the school. The prison school has no upper age limit, but statistically decreases the possibility of being summoned to the auditions the further into the 40-year applicant has been
• comprises a physical function test that includes strengthening exercises, and an endurance test
• have good health and good conduct. Health certificate and exhaustive police must first be submitted by the promise of admission
• have a driving license for passenger cars

On the basis of a political objective that the staff must reflect the population composition in general, both in terms of gender and cultural diversity, especially women and persons with minority and / or other language backgrounds are encouraged  to apply for jobs.

On the basis of the application, the current candidates will be called for admission test. This test consists of physical tests, written assignments and an individual interview with the admission committee. The Council will then forward to its conclusion after a comprehensive evaluation of the application, the submitted papers and audition. All trainee time is considered a part of a trial period, and it will be made continuous assessment of suitability.
