The Correctional Education at KRUS train prison officers through a two-year, paid education. In addition, KRUS is responsible for supplemental education and research in the correctional field.
Prison Officer Education 2012-2013

KRUS is in a process aiming to obtain accreditation to credit 60 study points for each of the two years of study. The result of this process is not known at the time of announcement, but will not have practical significance in the study process.
The program starts at the school in Oslo in January 2012. The first theory semester is over five months, followed by two semesters of practical service at one of our training prisons, throughout the country. The fourth and last semester will be completed at the school in Oslo in the period August to November 2013. It follows a year of duty as a prison officer after graduation.
Requirements of qualified applicants:
- Have general admission, or if you do not have general admission it is a minimum requirement that you have the subjects Norwegian, English and social studies at university level in addition to the experience of working with people
- Have at least one year of documented experience of working life
- Are 21 years or older in 2011
- Pass a physical performance test that includes strength training and endurance test
- Have good health. It is necessary for prison officers to have good physical and mental health in order to safeguard their own and others' safety in prisons. It is therefore pertinent questions about the applicants' health in the admission process.
- Have good character. After the Execution of Sentences Act § 8 shall be no fault with the conduct of employees of the correctional
- Have a driving license for passenger cars
- Have the necessary maturity and personal suitability as required by a prison officer
At a later stage in the admission process we will ask for an expanded police certificate and private medical certificate. It is not necessary to provide these documents before it requested from the school.
The position is in pay range 19 - 38 in the Government salary system. An average starting salary is the salary grade 23, which corresponds to NOK 22 500, - per month or NOK 270 900, - per year.
Anyone who receives a diploma at the end of prison education is committed to a year's duty servce as prison officer in the Norwegian Correctional Service.
Due to the personnel policy goal that the staff should reflect the population in general, both in terms of gender and cultural diversity, we encourage women and people with a multicultural and / or other language backgrounds to apply for positions. We will also specifically search for candidates who speak the Sami language.
On the basis of the applicationthe most qualified candidates will be called for the entrance examination. The recording day consists of physical function tests, written assignments and an individual interview with the Correctional Trainee Tribunal. The Board will conclude after a comprehensive evaluation of the application, the submitted papers and audition.
All aspirant time, from start-up to the cadets have graduated, is considered probationary. It will be carried out continuous assessment of suitability.
